Code of Conduct

Stanford University Press is collectively committed to creating and fostering a culture and environment that is conducive to the pursuit of excellence within scholarly publishing. We embrace the values of Stanford University as guiding principles of conduct: integrity, diversity, respect, freedom of inquiry and expression, trust, honesty and fairness. As staff, authors, governing board, reviewers, and vendors, we aim to integrate these values into our own collaborations and publications, in support of the Press’s and the University’s mission to extend the frontiers of knowledge, stimulate creativity, and solve real-world problems; and to prepare students to think broadly, deeply, and critically, and to make meaningful contributions to society and global debates.

We strive at all times to maintain the highest standards of integrity and quality, while upholding ethical, professional, and legal standards. When conduct and activities are not governed by specific laws or regulations, rules of equity, honesty, and respect for the rights of others will govern our conduct at all times.  We actively work to sustain a positive, supportive environment in which the peer review process may occur with rigor and fairness.

The Press has zero tolerance for racism, sexism, or any other form of discrimination or harassment as outlined in Stanford University’s Code of Conduct, or for illegal, dishonest, or unethical professional conduct.  As a department of Stanford University, we prohibit unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, marital status or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. We stand against abuse in all forms and require our authors, partners, and collaborators to stand with us in support of mutual respect, equity, and inclusion. We will not hesitate to dissolve partnerships in violation of these principles.
