Irvine Studies in the Humanities
ROBERT FOLKENFLIK, SERIES EDITOR
Irvine Studies in the Humanities, sponsored by the School of Humanities, University of California at Irvine, comprises volumes of original essays, each devoted to a significant topic in the humanities. The intention of these volumes is to explore collectively some of the most compelling intellectual problems of our time and to comprehend the relations between humanistic and other discourses. At times this will lead to a strong interdisciplinary emphasis, at others to a focus on a single field. The series will not be limited to any one theory or method, though the individual volumes will define their own coherence. Volumes now in the planning stages will take as their subjects human bodies, Asian literature and the state, the transmittability of culture, woman and the image. This series is closed.
