About The Peter Stansky Publication Fund in British Studies

The Peter Stansky Publication Fund in British Studies was established in 2017 with a generous gift from Peter Stansky, Frances and Charles Field Professor of History, Emeritus at Stanford. A historian of modern Britain, Professor Stansky has published extensively on the cultural, political, and literary milieu of twentieth-century Britain, including biographical studies of George Orwell, Julian Bell, Edward Upward, and most recently, Leonard Woolf. He received BAs in history from Yale and King’s College, Cambridge, and a PhD from Harvard University; Professor Stansky joined the Stanford faculty in 1968.

A longtime supporter of Stanford University Press’s mission of disseminating high-quality scholarship, Peter Stansky established the Fund with the aim of supporting publications about Britain and the British empire. Books underwritten by the Stansky Fund build upon the Press’s tradition of scholarly excellence and its commitment to producing books that will endure the test of time.
